Chapter Two: The Reason
It all started back in September, when everyone found out the theme for homecoming, fairy-tales. Adam had come up to Jamie one day and asked her to go with him. She said no.

“But why not? I mean, I thought we were friends?” Adam asked.

“We are friends. It’s just, well; I’m kind of hoping this other guy will ask me to go with him. I’ve had a crush on him since last year and well, I think he likes me, so he might ask me out.” Jamie said getting things out of her locker.

“But what if he doesn’t ask you?”

“Then I’ll probably go with some friends.” Jamie closed her locker and looked at Adam. “I don’t want to treat you like a back up plan and I know you don’t want me to treat you like a back up.”

“I really don’t care if I’m a back up.” Adam said desperately.

“Adam, I really am flattered that you want to go with me, but I would feel horrible if I went with you because the whole night I will be wishing I was there with him. I’m so sorry, but I know for a fact to you will find someone better than me to take with you.”

“Yeah fine, whatever.” Adam said walking away.

Jamie watched him walk away feeling horrible about rejecting him, but by the end of the week the guy she wanted to ask her did. She went to homecoming with Thomas and had the time of her life. Jamie tried to fine Adam at the dance to say hi and talk to him, but she never did. The week after homecoming Jamie looked for Adam when ever she was in the hallway or at lunch just to check in and see how everything was, she never found him.

So that one day in May, a week before prom, two weeks before Graduation when she heard that first gun shot come from somewhere else in the school she never thought she would have been the cause of all the sorrow soon to come.
